| CR2032 | CR2025 | |
|---|---|---|
| Voltage | 3V | 3V |
| Diameter | 20mm | 20mm |
| Thickness | 3.2mm | 2.5mm |
| Capacity | ~220mAh | ~165mAh |
| Chemistry | Lithium | Lithium |
| Common uses | car key fobs, AirTags, watches, motherboards, glucose meters | some car key fobs, thinner watches, some remote controls |
Are they interchangeable?
No — not interchangeableNot reliably. They share the same 20mm diameter and 3V voltage, but CR2032 is 0.7mm thicker than CR2025. A CR2025 may physically fit in a CR2032 slot but the thinner cell can fail to make proper contact with the battery terminals, causing intermittent power or no power at all. Going the other way, a CR2032 will often not fit in a CR2025 slot because it is too thick for the compartment.
The verdict
Always use the battery your device specifies. If it says CR2032, use CR2032. If it says CR2025, use CR2025. The price difference is negligible — getting the wrong one risks damaging your device or simply not working.
